The silicon carbide fluidizing air pad, also called a ceramic aeration pad or high-temperature fluidization plate, is a sintered porous ceramic brick engineered specifically for fluidizing fine powder in hoppers and silos operating at temperatures from 200°C to 500°C. Unlike fabric-based air pads that fail rapidly above 200°C, this pad is manufactured from high-purity silicon carbide powder fired at 1,600°C into a rigid, gas-permeable plate with uniform interconnected porosity. Compressed air diffuses through the entire brick volume, emerging as millions of micro-bubbles that permeate settled high-temperature powder — cement kiln dust, blast furnace ash, waste incineration fly ash — and transform it into a fluidized state for unrestricted discharge. The ceramic structure simultaneously filters the air, blocking powder backflow into the air supply line. With a Mohs hardness of 7, it withstands the abrasive scouring of hot mineral dust and slag particles that would erode fabric or steel in weeks. Standard brick dimensions from 150×300×20 mm to 300×600×30 mm allow multiple units to be assembled into a continuous aeration trench along the hopper wall. Graphite gaskets rated to 600°C and 304 stainless steel fasteners complete the high-temperature sealing system. Where fabric pads last one month at best, this ceramic pad delivers 3 to 5 years of uninterrupted service — the only proven solution for ultra-high-temperature powder fluidization.
Fabric-based fluidizing pads use polyester or PPS filter cloth as the gas-permeable membrane. At temperatures above 200°C, polyester melts and PPS shrinks and embrittles. The cloth loses permeability, cracks, or tears, allowing hot powder to backflow into the air manifold. A fabric pad installed in a cement kiln dust hopper or blast furnace ash silo typically fails within weeks, requiring a full pad replacement during a high-risk hot shutdown. The recurring maintenance cost and production downtime make fabric pads economically unviable for ultra-high-temperature applications.
The silicon carbide air pad eliminates thermal failure through its material. The ceramic body has no organic components — nothing to melt, shrink, or oxidize at process temperatures up to 500°C. The pore structure is formed during sintering and is permanent; it does not degrade with heat exposure or thermal cycling. The high hardness resists abrasive wear from mineral dust and slag, maintaining consistent air permeability over years of service. The graphite gasket, unlike rubber or PTFE seals that degrade above 200°C, remains flexible and gas-tight to 600°C. Together, these materials create a fluidization device that is installed once and left in service for the entire maintenance interval of the vessel.

The ceramic brick is mounted on the interior wall of a hopper or silo, sealed with a graphite gasket. Compressed air enters the plenum behind the brick and diffuses through the entire ceramic volume. Air bubbles emerge uniformly from the exposed face, permeating the hot powder and reducing inter-particle friction. The fluidized powder flows freely toward the discharge outlet. The ceramic pore structure prevents powder ingress into the air supply when the air is shut off.
Step 1: Confirm the operating temperature exceeds 200°C. Below 200°C, a fabric-based air pad is more economical.
Step 2: Select brick dimensions based on the available hopper wall area. For large silos, calculate the number of bricks needed to cover approximately 5–10% of the cone wall surface.
Step 3: Verify the compressed air supply is dry and oil-free to prevent pore clogging from steam or oil residue.
Step 4: Order spare graphite gaskets for the installation quantity; gaskets are the only component that may require periodic replacement.
