The industrial butterfly damper valve is a core flow control component for dust collection ductwork, ventilation systems, and process exhaust piping. It enables precise regulation of airflow, pressure, and directional balance within a duct network by rotating a circular or square disc across the pipe cross-section. Three actuator types serve every operational need: manual worm-gear drive for simple, low-frequency adjustment; pneumatic actuators for fast, fail-safe, and explosion-proof remote control; and electric actuators for automated, programmable modulation from a central control system. The valve body and disc are available in carbon steel with anti-corrosion coating for standard dry applications, 304 stainless steel for humid or mildly corrosive exhaust, and 316L stainless steel for severe chemical and marine environments. Sealing systems range from silicone for moderate temperatures to fluoroelastomer rated above 280°C for high-temperature flue gas. Standard diameters from DN80 to DN1200 cover the full range of industrial ductwork, with square and custom flange configurations available. Whether you need to balance branches in a baghouse network, isolate a kiln exhaust line, or modulate fresh air intake in a factory ventilation system, this damper provides the precise, repeatable control needed to optimize dust capture and minimize energy consumption.
Dust collection and ventilation networks with multiple branches suffer from inherent airflow imbalance. Branches closest to the fan pull excessive air, while distant hoods starve for velocity and fail to capture dust. Without individual branch control, operators compensate by oversizing the main fan, which increases energy consumption and accelerates filter and duct wear. In high-temperature exhaust lines, a leaking or jammed damper can force the entire process offline. Standard sheet-metal dampers without proper sealing or corrosion protection quickly rust, seize, or leak, becoming a source of system inefficiency rather than a control solution.
Our butterfly damper solves these problems through robust construction and material selection matched to the operating environment. The heavy-gauge body resists the structural stress of negative-pressure dust collection ductwork. The precision-machined disc and seat provide tight shut-off when closed and smooth, proportional control when modulating. Manual worm-gear drives incorporate self-locking mechanisms that hold the set position without creep. Pneumatic actuators deliver full-open to full-close in under one second with a spring-return fail-safe option for safety-critical applications. Electric actuators accept 4-20 mA control signals for direct integration with plant-wide automation systems. The stainless steel options — 304 for general corrosion resistance, 316L for chloride and acid service — ensure long-term operability without rust or seizure in harsh exhaust streams. These dampers restore balance to dust collection networks, reduce fan energy consumption, and provide the reliable isolation needed for maintenance and emergency shutdown.

A circular or square disc is mounted on a shaft across the duct diameter. When the actuator rotates the shaft, the disc angle changes relative to the airflow. At 0° (disc parallel to airflow), the valve is fully open with minimal pressure drop. At 90° (disc perpendicular to airflow), the valve provides tight shut-off. Intermediate angles provide proportional flow control. Manual worm-gear drives use a threaded gear reduction that holds the disc at any set position without drifting. Pneumatic actuators use compressed air to drive a rack-and-pinion mechanism, providing rapid, high-torque operation. Electric actuators use a motor and limit switches to position the disc according to a control signal, enabling remote and automated operation.

Yes. The standard design handles both negative-pressure dust collection systems and positive-pressure supply ducts. For high-vacuum applications above 5,000 Pa, specify the reinforced body option.
The worm-gear mechanism provides mechanical advantage for turning large-diameter discs against airflow pressure. It is self-locking, meaning the disc holds its position without drifting or requiring a separate locking mechanism.
Double-acting actuators require air to both open and close. Spring-return actuators use air to open and a mechanical spring to close automatically on air failure, providing a fail-safe position for safety-critical applications.
Yes. Modulating electric actuators accept 4-20 mA or 0-10 V control signals and provide position feedback. On/off actuators can be controlled by relay contacts from a PLC or DCS.
Install the damper with the shaft horizontal. In high-dust-load applications, schedule periodic cycling of the damper during operation to clear the seating surfaces. Clean-out ports upstream of the damper are also recommended.
Manual drives require periodic greasing of the worm-gear assembly. Pneumatic actuators require inspection of air filter-regulator-lubricator units. Electric actuators require verification of limit switch settings and motor function. All dampers benefit from annual visual inspection of seals and disc condition.
