1. Installation and Assembly Issues (Most Common After New Installation)

Poor cage quality: Welding burrs, broken wires, bent cages and too few support rings rub the fabric and puncture the bag from inside. An oversized cage over-stretches the bag; an undersized one lets it flap and abrade. Fix: use straight, smooth, burr-free cages matched to the exact bag size.

Bag mouth not sealed: If the snap ring is not fully seated in the tube sheet, or the bag hangs crooked, the mouth is pulled and cracked. Burrs on the tube sheet hole also cut the fabric. Fix: deburr the holes, install bags vertically and seat every snap ring.

Bags too close together: Adjacent bags slap and rub during operation, wearing through the middle and lower sections. Fix: keep proper bag spacing and replace deformed cages.

2. Airflow Scouring and Vortex Wear

Inlet air directly hits the bags: Without baffles or deflector plates, high-velocity gas blasts the front row of bags, causing one-sided wear and strip-like tears. A high dust level in the hopper makes it worse. Fix: install deflector plates and empty the hopper regularly.

Air leakage and uneven negative pressure: Leaks through the housing, doors and flanges create vortexes that spin abrasive dust against the fabric. Fix: seal all leaks and replace worn gaskets.

Filter velocity too high: The recommended filtration velocity is 0.8-1.2 m/min. Above 1.5 m/min, bag life drops sharply. Fix: recalculate airflow, reduce fan speed or add filtration area.

3. Cleaning System Problems

Pulse pressure too high: Pressure above 0.6 MPa repeatedly slams the bag mouth and upper part, stretching and cracking the fabric. Fix: keep pressure at 0.4 to 0.5 MPa; adjust slightly for sticky dust, never overpressure.

Cleaning too frequent: Over-cleaning fatigues the fabric and accelerates aging. Fix: set timed or differential-pressure cleaning and extend the interval to 5-30 minutes.

Blow pipe misaligned: If nozzles are not centered on the bags, the jet strikes one spot and punctures it. Fix: align the blow pipes so every nozzle points at the bag center.

4. Operating Conditions: Temperature, Condensation, Corrosion

Over-temperature: Above the fabric limit, fibers embrittle and weaken. Polyester bags run safely to about 130 degrees Celsius, and Nomex to about 200 degrees. Fix: install cooling, or switch to PPS, aramid or PTFE bags rated for the actual temperature.

Condensation and blinding: Moisture causes condensation and hard cakes that abrade the fabric during cleaning. Fix: insulate the casing, preheat the gas stream and stop water ingress.

Chemical corrosion: Sulfur, chlorine and other corrosive gases attack fibers, making bags brittle and perforated. Fix: choose PTFE-based media and add desulfurization or pre-treatment upstream.

5. Abrasive Dust Characteristics

Ore, sand, metal and other hard angular dust with a Mohs hardness above 3 acts like sandpaper, wearing the middle and lower parts uniformly. Fix: choose heavier, abrasion-resistant media and optimize airflow to reduce direct impingement.

6. Mechanical Damage from Foreign Objects

Weld slag, bolts, scrap metal and large lumps carried by the gas punch irregular holes through the bags. Tools left inside the housing cause the same damage. Fix: install inlet grids or screens, and inspect the housing after every maintenance job.
